St. Barnabas Ministries

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me,

I was in prison and you came to me.

Matthew 25 : 35-36

Altar Guild Ministry

The ministry of the Altar Guild is the preparation of the sanctuary for worship.  The Altar Guild's responsibilities are the care and preparation of the altar, set up and clean up before and after services, and to arrange flowers.  The Altar Guild cares for linens and vessels used in the Eucharist.  From time to time there ae special tasks associated with baptisms, weddings, and funerals.  Serving on the Altar Guild is a privilege and an honor.  Through our work at the altar and in the sanctuary, we learn the symbolism and meaning of the vestments, linens, and vessels.  It is a wonderful way to participate behind the scenes in the worship life of the church.

Donate Altar Flowers

If you would like to donate altar flowers, the first step is to select an open Sunday on the Flower Chart located in the back of the church.

The chart notes any special restrictions on colors such as purple for Lent or greens for Advent. You may bring flowers and greenery from your garden, or you can buy cut flowers at the grocery or Costco, or bring potted plants that can be used for several Sundays or added to the church (or your garden!), or you can have a florist make an arrangement for you. You can even do non-floral arrangements! In the past we have had arrangements of

canned food (for SW HOPE), mittens and hat trees for the homeless, and even a completed jigsaw puzzle of a bouquet!

The Altar Guild prepares the altar area on Saturday mornings, usually at 9:30am, and this includes flower arranging. Deliver what you are providing to the Sacristy on Saturday by 9:30am. Altar Guild will take it from there.  If you have questions, contact the Altar Guild President.

The church office will contact you the week before the Sunday you selected to determine how you would like your arrangement acknowledged in the Sunday bulletin.
