The Women of St. Barnabas met on Sunday, June 26th. Thanks to all of you who attended.
The Pentecost chili cook off was under new leads this year. A big thank you to Kay, Melissa, and Sheila for putting this together. We had many new chili chefs this year which was great. This has become an annual staple in the St. Barnabas parish life.
July marks our annual Community Dinner BBQ. We cook up burgers & hot dogs, corn on the cob, cole slaw, watermelon & ice cream and eat outside. It is great fun and the weather is forecast to be wonderful, so please join us. Service begins at 5:00 p.m. and clean-up at 6:00 p.m. No need to come early and stay late, an hour or two at any time during the afternoon is a big help. Thanks!
St. B’s Team at Loaves & Fishes at Multnomah Center each 2nd Wednesday, 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Multnomah Days is August 20 and we are planning to participate in the parade again. However, we will not sponsor a booth this year. So, mark your calendars and get out your walking shoes. Let Fr. Sean know if you would like to purchase t-shirts again. We can try a different design/color depending on the wishes of the congregation.
For the last seven years, St. Barnabas has been hosting a Community Dinner, where every second Saturday we prepare and serve a nutritious dinner to parishioners, neighbors, and those in our community who are having trouble putting food on the table consistently. We also provide food and personal item bags for those people who need them. Originally, we had the assistance of parishioners from St. John the Baptist, but they dropped out of the program a couple of years ago to pursue other opportunities.
The next Community Dinner is Saturday, May 14 (and every second Saturday). Please join St. Barnabas’ signature ministry. We feed 40-50 people every month and it takes many people to prepare the food, set the tables, serve the meal and clean-up. The more hands on deck the better. Food preparation begins at 2:00 PM, food service begins at 5:00 and clean-up at 6:00. No need to come early and stay late, an hour or two at any time during the afternoon is a big help. Thanks!
Can you feel it? Can you feel the heat? Can you feel the sweat on your brow? Maybe it’s just hot outside, or maybe, It’s time for our annual Pentecost Tongues of Fire Chili Cook-off.
Join us on Sunday, May 15 following the 10:00 AM service. All comers are invited to enter your favorite chili recipe. We can also use cornbread and, of course, people to set-up and clean-up. Please see the sign-up sheet in Grafe Hall.
