Annual Meeting of St. Barnabas

Hold the date for Sunday, January 24, 2016. The meeting will be held following the 10:00 a.m. service and the Women of St. Barnabas will be hosting a luncheon to keep us fortified.

Have you been tossing and turning, night after night, wondering when the Dinners for Eight groups will be assigned?

Of course you have! Well, rest easy. The fall got away from us and the groups didn’t get formed, but never fear, we’re ready to start things up in January. If you previously signed up, we’ll put you in a group, if you didn’t sign-up, it’s not too late to put your name on the list in Grafe Hall. This is great way to socialize with St. B’s friends in a relaxed environment, please join us.

Men’s Breakfast

Men’s Breakfast 3rd Sunday between the services, enjoy a tasty breakfast and visit with fellow members. (December 20, January 17)

News from Women of St. Barnabas

West Women’s and Children’s Shelter Donations: Twice a year the WoSB sponsor an ingathering of necessities for this shelter. It has been a charity that has been very important in our ministry for many years. They have been drastically cut in funding and grants over the last year and the shelter is so appreciative of what we do. This is a shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence and are taking the first steps to finding better, safer lives.

Boiler Plant Overhaul: coming soon to a warmer church near you!

There is nothing that causes a Vestry member’s heart to go pitter patter more than hearing, “Energy Trust Oregon will give us a 59% discount on modernizing our boiler controls and we will save an estimated annual amount of $2620 in natural gas costs!” After much investigation and planning, Vestry Building and Grounds Liaison Chris Battista has arranged to get the control system of the church boiler modernized so we can control the operating hours, reduce gas usage, and get better temperature control in the heating water zones. All of this will be managed through a web-based front end system. It will take several months for the study and work to be completed. Energy Trust will also let us finance part of the net cost at no interest. The boiler is the original 1950s behemoth and is stuck in mid-20th century “technology”, i.e. none. This upgrade will add modern Trane computerized control capabilities to the old boiler (which is basically sound, but cannot be replaced without MAJOR expense). The net costs will be returned in just three years of energy savings.
