Stump the Priest

Question: It’s great news that we have sold Barnabas House (maybe), does that mean that our financial problems are over?

Looking Ahead to All Saint’s Day, November 1st

Father Sean would like to try something new this year. Instead of reading out the names of all of the saints we want to remember, he is asking that people bring small mementos of their honored loved ones to display on a table at the altar, such as photos, medals, favorite objects that represent loved ones that have passed away. Questions? Ask Father Sean.

Annual Stewardship Campaign, Kick-off October 18th

Our annual stewardship Campaign is right around the corner. The campaign will kick-off on Sunday, October 18 and conclude with an in-gathering Sunday on November 8. This year’s theme is “Building Faith Through Gratitude.” Jesus came to bring us abundant life (John 10:10), and our abundance, however great or small, should be embraced with gratitude.

From our members, to our building, to our staff, St. Barnabas is blessed with abundancy in many ways, and our prayer is that, in gratitude, you will share in sustaining that abundance. Thank you!

Mark your calendars and dig out your lederhosen!

Saturday, October 17th from 6-8pm is our annual Oktoberfest – Songs, Sausages and Suds celebration. Join the Women of St. Barnabas for an evening of hymn singing, eating delicious sausages and sipping your favorite suds (beer, root beer and non-alcoholic beer, and wine, too). This is a favorite social event. Bring a friend! A $5 donation is suggested. Please call the church office or sign up in Grafe Hall so they know how many sausages to cook.

Safeguarding God’s Children

Safeguarding God’s Children is required for all volunteers working with children in the congregation. If you need to attend the training, a session is offered on Saturday, October 17, 8:00 AM – Noon, at Ascension Episcopal Church in Portland. Our Vestry Liaison for Christian Education, Robbie Jessen is planning to attend, so you won’t be lonely. You can register on the Diocese of Oregon website, under the formation dropdown.

Christian Education – something for everyone

Sunday School for Kindergarten through 5th grade begins at 10am in Room 1 (the meeting room downstairs). Students return to church by communion. A program for middle and high school students meets in Barnabas House basement from 11:15-11:45 following the service (psst: there will be snacks!). And adult education meets in the narthex after the 10am service and will discuss the lectionary for the day. Grab a cup and some cookies at coffee hour and head back over to the church to participate, listen and learn.
