On Sunday, November 30th parish members will have a special opportunity to shop after the Sunday service. The Women of St. Barnabas were recipients of a large donation of Christmas ornaments which they will sell as a fund-raiser. This Christmas Bazaar will also be open to the public during the Christmas Tea on December 6th.
Coming soon to the St. Barnabas Narthex….a chance to buy Christmas trees (the kind that last forever) and ornaments! Following the 10:00 service on November 30th, parish members will be able to purchase some unique Christmas ornaments as well as beautifully decorated Christmas trees. You’ll also have a second opportunity to shop during the Christmas Tea on December 6th. The trees and ornaments were donated by Seven Dee’s Nursery so all proceeds are profits. Don’t miss this great event and fund-raiser for the Women of St. Barnabas.
Saturday, December 6th from 1:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. is our annual Holiday Tea. Our guest speaker this year will be Jody Grant from SW Loaves and Fishes. As many of you know we have a team from St. Barnabas who serve the second Wednesday of each month at Multnomah Art Center. She is a bubbly, energetic, and loving lady. It is so much fun serving with her.
This energetic, all volunteer local community theater group is directed by Don Barney and opens its second season in December with Horton Foote’s subtle comedy, “Dividing the Estate.” This two act play takes the audience to a small town in Texas in 1980’s, into the private lives of a large dysfunctional family as they brawl among themselves in the midst of two tragic deaths and one surprise romance. On Wednesday, Nov 26th, at 7:30 P.M. we will host a combined Thanksgiving service for neighboring parishes – St. John the Baptist and St. Bartholomew’s. A special feature of the evening will be the combined choirs for the parishes led by our Choir Director, Glenn Bjorkquist. Begin your holiday by giving thanks in this memorable service.
The Women of St. Barnabas will once again sponsor a collection for the West Women’s and Children’s Shelter. Their need is great and we have shown our ability to have a high impact on meeting their necessities. After Thanksgiving, we will set up our Christmas tree in Grafe Hall. Once again, we will focus on cleaning supplies and personal items for the women and children who reside at the shelter. We also provide them with Fred Meyer gift cards so that the staff can provide for specific needs throughout the year. Monetary donations for these cards can be given to Kay Martin or Cathie in the office. Here are suggested donations that can be placed under the Christmas tree:
- Hygiene products such as deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, body wash and razors
- Cleaning supplies
- Toilet paper, paper towels, plastic silverware
- Baby wipes and diapers
- Bus tickets
A more complete list will appear on a flyer in the Sunday bulletin. Please remember, their need is great and the Shelter’s service to the community is so needed. Please help St. Barnabas help them!
Thank you to all who helped in the community garden this year, all who helped plant, water, weed and just tend the garden. Even though it was small and not as big a producer as in past years, we picked beans, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, pumpkins and herbs to take to Neighborhood House, give away at our community dinner or use in our dinner. I am looking forward to next year to see how & what we grow. Let’s brainstorm early in the spring for those who are interested. Thanks again for feeding the community.
