St. Barnabas Episcopal Church

2201 SW Vermont St., Portland, OR 97219 – (503) 246-1949

Month: August 2014

Sunday Parkways

Mark Armstrong will be our coordinator this year. On September 28th, Southwest Portland (South portion of Gabriel Park & the Multnomah Hillsdale business districts) will be closed to traffic and open for bicycles, walkers, and runners.  St. Barnabas will sponsor an activity booth, helping children make small wooden propellers for their bicycle handlebars.  Stay tuned!  This is a great opportunity for St B’s folks to mingle with the larger community and share our story.

The Bishop’s Visit and Confirmation

Bishop Michael Hanley will visit St. Barnabas on Sunday, September 7th to confirm six of our young members. Please plan to attend this joyous celebration and to support these members as they commit their lives to Christ. And we can’t have a celebration without a feast! The annual parish picnic will follow the service. Please bring a potluck dish to share and enjoy fellowship and conversation with the Bishop. (As always there is a sign-up sheet in Grafe Hall – your help is appreciated!).

Estate Planning Seminar

The Finance and Stewardship Commission is pleased to offer an Estate
Planning seminar at St. Barnabas on Sunday, September 28th, at 11:30 A.M. The attorney is Darren Dooley from Nay & Friedenberg, a professional financial planning firm. This session is informational (no commitment required), but should provide us with valuable information about planning for our financial futures. If you have questions please speak to Betty Woerner or Sandy Hunnicutt.

We need to provide a tentative head count to attorney Darren Dooley a week before the seminar. Please let Betty or Sandy know that you will be attending.

SAFE Church Training

SAFE Church training (Safeguarding God’s Children) to be offered September 14th between 12:30-5:00 P.M. in Grafe Hall.  Per the Diocese of Oregon website, Safeguarding God’s Children training is required for all members of the clergy, all paid employees, all wardens and vestry members, and all volunteers (age 16 and over) who work with children and youth. Volunteers age 12-14 are welcome to attend it accompanied by a parent. We do not recommend this training for children under 12.  Please call Cathie in the church office to sign-up.  There is a $10 class fee, assistance is available for offsetting the cost, please see Fr. Sean for further details.

Men’s Breakfast 3rd Sunday

On Sunday, August 17th come to church a little early – or stay late after the 8:00 service – and enjoy a meal and fellowship.
